SPF-before or after Face Cream?

“Sunscreen before or after Mosituriser” is one of the most asked skincare questions on google but I also get asked if it’s before or after make-up even more often so I have made this wee chart above to hopefully help:

  • Rinse your face with water (my preferred) or cleanse if you have oily skin
  • Apply Serum/Face Oil to damp skin. Serum should always go first to work properly (the damp skin will help hydration)
  • If you are using more than one Serum maybe reevaluate that as they will most likely be competing with each other — consistency wins over complicated routines every time
  • Face Cream goes on next as its always thickest product last
  • Then SPF, but remember: 20 minutes before sun exposure — put it on before your coffee or breakfast and remember apply it to your face, neck and chest and any area exposed to the sun
  • Start your makeup after the SPF has had time to settle, and if you do the above 👆that will work.

Give each layer at least 30 seconds before applying the next and it is recommended that you apply your SPF 20 minutes before going out in the sun so if you manage that it will allow the sunscreen to settle a bit before putting your make up on.

And since you are meant to reapply SPF every 2 hours if you are out in the sun here is a short and doable video on best ways to reapply without wrecking your makeup from a person who knows what she is talking about Reapplying SPF.
