Restorative Face Serum with Bakuchiol & Kiwi Seed Oil 30mls
A lightweight, restorative, smoothing face serum made with clinically-proven natural retinol alternative Bakuchiol (bah-koo-chee-all), Kiwi Seed Oil, and Squalene to help reduce fine lines, hyperpigmentation and acne, stimulate collagen and restore your natural radiance.
Along with the impressive Bakuchiol, there’s much more to this silky serum. New Zealand grown Kiwi seed oil, which is full of vitamin C to help stimulate collagen, moisturise and nourish the skin, plus the gorgeously soft and light squalane oil and meadowfoam oil.
Best suited to?
This face serum is suitable for all skin types, even those with sensitive skin who cannot tolerate the side effects of retinol. However there have been no studies to show if its safe for pregnant women.
How to use it?
Think of a serum as your treatment product: it delivers a high concentration of active ingredients directly to your skin to work on specific concerns. Therefore apply it directly onto clean skin — it goes on first. Next apply a few drops of face oil (if you use one) and face cream last, and of course if it's day-time then apply your SPF. You may find that you no longer need a face oil with using the serum — see how your skin feels and this could change though the year
If you apply the rule I have talked about in the past — the thickest and heaviest product goes last to lock everything in and to decrease water loss and with Agnes & Me that is our face cream.
Use this serum twice a day for best results, applying 2-3 drops on your skin morning and night.
Give it time, when it's finished see if your skin liked it and if it has made a difference. Based on the data from the clinical studies, on average, the skin will begin to show visible signs of improvement after 12 weeks of use and in our experience that is about the same time as most people take to use 30mls
What is Bakuchiol?
Bakuchiol is the natural alternative to retinol that produces great looking skin without the adverse side effects. It has a proven ability to reduce wrinkles, boost collagen and reduce pigmentation.
Retinol has been the hot thing in skincare for some time with but it comes waving all sorts of red flags.
Retinol is an artificial version of Vitamin A and while it does good work, in my opinion, the cost is often not worth it. It can make things worse for many, causing redness, irritation, dryness and peeling skin and those with sensitive cannot use it. Retinol also makes your skin photosensitive so you are at much greater risk of damage from the sun. You must wear a potent SPF all the time, properly and very few people do this.
Bakuchiol is a natural alternative to retinol with no adverse side effects.
Is Bakuchiol new?
The “discovery” of bakuchiol is the bee's knees for those of us who want a natural ingredient that does all the good things without the bad things.
While bakuchiol is new to the skincare industry it’s actually an ancient “active” found in the seeds and leaves of the babchi plant from eastern Asia. However be wary of brands using Babchi oil — it does not do the magic.
Bakuchiol has been used in ayurvedic medicine for centuries and Indians have a word for it: kushtanashini — destroyer of skin disease.
Modern research is showing what ancient practitioners have known for hundreds of years with bakuchiol performing extremely well in clinically trials.
An article in the British Journal of Dermatology showed bakuchiol delivered a similar anti-ageing effect to retinol without the side-effects, including reduction in wrinkles and pigmentation.
The researchers wrote: “Bakuchiol and retinol both significantly decreased wrinkle surface area and hyperpigmentation, with no statistical difference between the compounds. The retinol users reported more facial skin scaling and stinging.
“Our study demonstrates that bakuchiol is comparable with retinol in its ability to improve photo-aging and is better tolerated than retinol. Bakuchiol is promising as a more tolerable alternative to retinol.”
In short, why wouldn’t you use something natural that did the same job as a synthetic? Especially when it comes without the nasty side effects?
What else does Bakuchiol do?
Bakuchiol is also a powerful antioxidant, fighting visible signs of aging caused by environmental stressors.
It helps collagen-depleted skin by visibly promoting a firmer-looking complexion.
It’s antibacterial so its great for improving acne. And one clinical study showed that 1% bakuchiol applied twice daily reduced acne by 57% after only 6 weeks.
One thing is that while retinol is fast-acting, bakuchiol does takes a bit longer to bring the same results — so expect to see changes after using for four weeks but the most dramatic improvements in fine lines, wrinkles, skin tone and elasticity come after 12 weeks of use according to research. You also need to use it twice a day.
Most of that research into bakuchiol used it at a rate of just 0.5% as it is such a potent ingredient. We use it at 1% in our serum — which is the industry standard — but we’ve also added some other amazing ingredients such as Kiwi Seed Oil, squalene and meadowfoam oil.
Why I made this serum
I made this serum as a booster for my older skin. Back in the 1990s in Sydney, myself and my friends all used retinol because it was so the thing. We had no idea; we went to the GP for a prescription as there were no over-the-counter products then, unbelievably they prescribed it, we applied the retinol and then went out in the Australian sun. We were nurses, we knew there was problem with retinol reacting badly with UV light because the box had warnings on it. But we were infallible then and I cringe at the thought of it now but I also know that very few people use SPF correctly or often enough so do wonder at anyone using retinol really.
Retinol is available everywhere now (without prescription) and is hugely popular but it is a synthetic chemical, not natural, and come with all sorts of side issues, notably the sun-sensitivity problem which means you have to be plastered in sunscreen all the time. So imagine how excited I was to find an ingredient that worked as effectively as retinol (it has been clinically tested) but without the terrible side effects of irritable, red, flaky, skin.
We skincare makers tell you that red, flaky and irritable skin is what we're trying to fix so why would you use something that made it happen?

I wish I had a before and after for you. I adore this product and it has made such a huge difference to lines and redness
This is a must have product, my skin is now radiant, I use under blam blam balm in evenings, and hydrating face cream in mornings and it really is great for mature skin. My face feels less dry without being too greasy. Another great Agnes and Me product in my must have selection!
Am currently using my 2nd bottle of this restorative serum and just feel more and more impressed with the results. Leaves skin feeling so soft and slowly but surely it is helping with pigmentation. Absorbs nicely into skin so doesn’t leave a sticky residue on clothing or bed linen. Love it 💕
Fabulous - noticed a huge improvement to my skin, fine lines dissappering and glowing which is great for a 75 yr old. Would recommend it to everyone
I have been using the Restorative Face Serum with Bakuchiol & Kiwi Seed Oil for a month now, and I am very happy with how soft it makes my face feel. Also, sometimes I use it on the back of my hands at night, and the next morning they feel soft and hydrated.
